The Venezuelan picture shifted substantially in early 2026: the change in government in January & the reopening to foreign investment that followed.

The Orinoco Belt is the world’s largest concentration of extra-heavy crude, and in 2026 it has become one of the most closely watched energy plays in the Western Hemisphere. It covers roughly 55,000 square kilometers north of the Orinoco River across Guárico, Anzoátegui, Monagas and Delta Amacuro, holds an estimated 1.36 trillion barrels of original oil in place, and is divided into four areas: Boyacá, Junín, Ayacucho, and Carabobo.

Venezuela reports about 303 billion barrels of proven reserves nationwide, of which roughly 260–270 billion sit in the Belt; the USGS has separately put technically recoverable volumes in the formation at a mean of 513 billion barrels. After years of sanctions, disinvestment and decay, the Belt is reopening to international operators and every barrel that moves from wellhead to export terminal still depends on diluent, pipelines, power, and coastal facilities stretched across hundreds of kilometers of remote llanos. ON the ground reality

Scale without density. Production assets are dispersed across an area larger than Croatia, linked by long-haul pipelines, blending stations and upgraders that feed the Jose export complex on the Caribbean coast. Perimeter-based security models don't scale to corridors measured in hundreds of kilometers; protecting the Belt means protecting a network, not a facility.

Assess before you spend. Every engagement begins with threat and vulnerability assessment across the full chain, wellhead to export terminal. The output is a ranked picture of where a disruption actually costs production, so capital goes to the nodes that matter instead of being spread evenly across assets of wildly unequal consequence. For operators inheriting infrastructure they didn't build, this is the difference between a security budget and a security plan.

Cover distance with technology, not headcount. Long corridors are a sensor problem before they are a manpower problem.
