The tragedy in Kenscoff should force more than another conversation about firepower. During the night of August 23, 2026, armed gangs attacked Kenscoff, the mountain community overlooking Port-au-Prince. At least 47 people were killed, including five children. Twenty-two others were injured. Dozens were reportedly abducted, and homes were burned. Every one of those lives matters and their deaths compel a difficult question—not only for Haiti, but for every nation confronting organized violence amid scarcity:
